The Big Apple - Day 2

BATTERY PARK
Zane, Denise, Me, Jim, Dad

Our primary mode of transportation was the subway.  It was pretty cool going all over Manhattan using the subway.

The memorial commemorates U.S. servicemen who died in coastal waters of the western Atlantic Ocean during World War II. A total of 4,609 names are inscribed on both sides of eight 19-foot-tall granite pylons. The pylons are arranged in two rows of four each.

Between the two rows stands a bronze statue of an eagle, erected on a black granite pedestal. The eagle faces the Statue of Liberty in New York harbor.

STATUE OF LIBERTY
We took a ferry to Libery Island and Ellis Island.

View from pedestal of the Statue of Liberty.  It was foggy, but still beautiful.

ELLIS ISLAND
Ellis Island Immigration Museum

Ellis Island was the gateway for millions of immigrants to the United States as the site of the nation's busiest immigrant inspection station from 1892 to 1954.

I'm sure I would have been sent here for testing.

LOMBARDI'S PIZZA
For lunch we ate at Lombardi's Pizza - YUMMY!!!!  When we walked in we notice Emeril Lagasse sitting at the bar with a couple of cameras.  Apparently, he was interviewing someone there for a show.

This pizza was the best we had in New York.

Crazy parking!

After lunch, we walked around looking for the TKTS booth.  You can buy discounted broadway tickets at these booths.  Since we were quickly becoming subway pros, we found the TKTS booth by the seaport, which had NO LINE!!  The TKTS line in Times Square is at least an hour (or two).  We ended up getting tickets to Chicago for 60% off.
