The Cougars

The Cougars
Spring 2012

Sammy was on the Cougars coached by our friend Dan.  Dan did a great job and they played great.

Sammy with his coach.  Sammy played great this season.  He has gotten a lot more aggressive.  He scored several times, but he was a wall on defense.

Sweet kick.

Dribbling down.

Throwing the ball in.

Goal kick.

GOAL!!!!  Love, love this picture.  You can see the ball as it was going in.

Trey & Sammy congratulating themselves on a good play.

Sammy is excited about something (probably Trey scoring...Trey was a goal-making machine).

I missed the play because I was coaching Sarah's soccer game but I had to document an awesome play.  Sammy was kicking a corner kick.  The opposing team made a wall to protect their goal.  Jim was coaching (Dan was out of town) and told Sammy to kick it over the kids' heads to Trey.  Sammy kicked it right over their heads and Trey scored.  Wished I could have seen it.

Spring 2012

Front:  Sarah, Ellie, Kade, Stryder
Saturday marked the end of a super fun soccer season.  I loved coaching this bunch of kids.

ABI
Abi was the youngest on the team.  She liked to play soccer on her own terms.  She would be a tiger, a leopard, or a lion.  She was our enforcer and let others know if they weren't following the rules.

KADE
Kade was our superstar.  This kid could not be stopped.  But even though he could score at will, he would still try to get the rest of the team involved.

MARISSA
One of my favorites!  Marissa caught the shy bug during the games but in practices she would race around and kick hard.

STRYDER
Stryder started the season off with a broken elbow and then he was sick...poor guy.  But when he finally recovered from everything we were so glad to have him because he jumped right in the mix of things.

ELLIE
Ellie makes me smile....and don't mess with her.  She is feisty on the soccer field and I loved it!  She did awesome and she is a little athlete.

SARAH
Sarah did amazing!  She is definitely competitive and loves to score goals.  The last game she didn't score a goal and she was a little ticked...I think it made her hungry for next year.  Super proud of this all star!

Some of my favorite pics from the season -

Kade ahead of the pack...again.

Sarah fighting Stryder for the ball.  I think she ended up scoring.

Sarah on the break away.

Sarah warming up.

Sarah with her bestie Marissa.

Sarah kicking the ball through two defenders.

Sarah getting a ride home in the rhino with Trey & Kade.

Me pushing Marissa around (I need to work on that...there were a lot of pictures of my pushing the kids into position.  LOL)

Marissa showing us a big kick.

Kade cooling Marissa off.

Sarah dribbling for a goal.

LOVED COACHING THIS TEAM.

GO MIGHTY DOLPHINS!!!

Havasu Half 2012

Havasu Half Marathon
April 14, 2012

For the third consecutive year, I ran in the Havasu Half Marathon with my longtime friend, Brooke.  This weekend was a little hectic with games, practices and recitals, so Jim stayed home with the kids to hold down the fort and fulfill all our different obligations while I got to hang out with some of my favorite people - the Vetters.

Saturday morning was a cold one.  It had rained during the night and it was very windy.  Before the race started I didn't dare to part with my long sleeve shirt, but after about 1/2 a mile I was wishing I would have not worn in.

My results
Total time - 1:43:58
Pace - averaged a 7:58 mile
Overall - 75 out of 499
Female - 17 out of 285
Division (30-34) - 10 out of 66

PERSONAL BEST!!!

I was super happy with my time.  I think my previous PB was a 1:50:00 for a half marathon.  In Boston, I ran the first half of the marathon in 1:47:00, but I started out way too fast and crashed the second half.  I felt good pretty much the whole race and I think I paced myself well.  I didn't start out too fast, which I typically tend to do.

Next race:  Ogden Marathon....maybe a 3:30:00 marathon...we'll see...
